Rachel Bunting formed “The Humans,” a dance/performance group, in 2002,
as an outlet for her passion in combining images and motion. Her work uses
object, mask, video and word to create highly visual worlds where dance
becomes ritual and fantastical happenings. “The Humans” has been seen in
Chicago at the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Dance Center of Columbia
College, The Harris Theater, Defibrillator, Mana Contemporary, Links Hall, and
Hamlin Park Theater as well as many site-specific sites. Rachel is a 2011
Chicago Dancemakers Forum Lab Artist grantee. She has received many
Finalist and Individual Artist Grants from The Illinois Arts Council, The Department of Cultural Affairs and Events, DCASE, a Multi-Year
Grant from The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation and a “Make a Wave” grant from 3arts. For the last three years, she has been working on
a piece titled, “SUNS.” Excerpts have been presented by Dixon Place in NYC, Defibrillator, and Audience Architects in Chicago, as well as
at Links Hall and The Chicago Cultural Center for “Elevate,” produced by the Regional Dance Development Initiative and Chicago
Dancemakers Forum. Rachel has been an Artist-In-Residence at Hamlin Park Theater since 2002. Rachel has recently begun
publishing her writings. In 2019, her poem, “Two Tiny Moons,” was published in Skidrow Penthouse, a NYC magazine, and “Unthawed
Hearts from the Birds of Last Year,” her first chapbook, was published by Dancing Girl Press, in Chicago. She is once again thrilled to be
presenting at Out-Of-Site.
